Alex Wolchik’s BMW 335i

I came across the 2007 BMW 335i in May, shortly after owner Alex Wolchik had finished his masterpiece. The sleek curves of the fenders make the e90 stand out from the rest of the crowd and were what caught my eye in the first place. Wolchik points out that the widebody and over fenders demand attention. He says, “Not many people think to widebody a sedan, which makes it stand out from others. But my favorite part of the car is defiantly the wheels, they make the car what it is in my opinion.” The 335i sports with a set of mean 16″ BBS RS211 faces that have been powdered coated jet black with a clear vision top coat.

Wolchik has always had an interest in the technical side of motorvehicles, starting with go-karts and mini bikes at a young age his passion grew from there. “When I was thirteen, a friend of my sister came to our house with an estrol blue E36 M3. I was in love with that car. After a ride, that is still the best and most memorable rides of my life, I was hooked on BMWs.” As soon as he was old enough, Wolchik saved enough money and purchased his first BMW, a 2001 E46 325ci. After a year of driving it and loving it, another BMW caught his eye. “The E90 335i immediately got my attention. A 300hp/300tq twin turbo inline 6 paired with a 6 speed transmission sounded fun and it was in my price range. I chose the sedan because it was intended to be my daily driver and seemed more practical.”

With his heavy list of modifications I asked him if the car was still functional. “The car handles and performs very similar to a stock 335i. It rides smooth and corners tight.” He says it hugs the road just like any BMW should. “When driving normal you can’t tell anything has been done to the engine. But as soon as you give it some gas, the turbos start to spool and the 21psi of boost kicks in and it’s a completely different animal. You’re glued to the seats as it just pulls through all 6 gears.”

Surely this car can’t be finished, even though it’s damn near close to perfection. “I’d like to get a set of Recaro sportster cs seats in red leather and have the rear seats reupholstered to match. I’d also like to have the interior trim wrapped in black alacantara.”

While wrapping up his e90, Wolchik intends to move onto building his 1999 E36 M3. “The current plans are for a low compression high boost S52 engine build running E85.” Wolchik plans to target around 650whp with an E46 M3 6 speed vf transmission. “To top off the build I’ll be installing airlift performance series suspension and a custom built set of BBS rsii converted from 2pc or 3pc. Full polyurethane suspension bushing, Porsche 911 brembo 6 piston calipers with E46 m3 slotted rotors, Braum elite series seats, custom built half care, Harrison door panels, rear panels, rear seat deletes and fancy wide front lip and side skirt extensions and a rear diffuser.”

Be on the lookout for Wolchik and his 335i at European Experience 2017. If you can’t stand to wait that long you can catch him in Savannah, GA on Saturdays at the Pepboys meet.
